About
The Cheltenham Home Guard Motorcycle Club aims primarily at the off-road motorcyclist but caters for a large and popular trail bike following.
We are currently running five events this year for riders of all abilities. Our events range from small off-road trials for club members of all abilities to trail bike events using public roads between more challenging sections. The ‘Barrett’ and ‘Sphinx’ trail bike events always prove popular so book early! These events caters for trail or trials bikes, old or modern, over a course of at least 40 miles through the Cotswold countryside. They primarily use green lanes, usually with around 30 sections for riders to attempt, all off-road. Inevitably this event does have to use the public roads for some of the route but this is kept to a minimum and only used when we can’t find a lane as an alternative although this has become more difficult with the changes to DEFRA regulations.
We are a friendly active group but need more participating members. The core members of the CHGMCC not only organise our own Club events, but take part most weekends in some form of motorcycle sport, but really need more help. If you are interested in helping out or even organising an event, please come down to the Club night. We meet every Thursday evening at the Cheltenham Motor Club Headquarters in Upper Park Street Cheltenham, at around 8:30pm. Please call in even if its just for a drink and a chat. Alternatively click here for a list of the core ‘team’ or e-mail us for further information about our events, or general enquiries.
History
The Cheltenham Home Guard Motorcycle Club was formed in 1945 by a group of members of the Gloucestershire Regiment of The Home Guard. They requested and were permitted the unique honour of using as a club badge, the Sphinx, displayed on the Glosters Back Badge. This group ran some of the first competitive events following the end of World War Two. Since then Scrambles, Grass Tracks and Trials have been run by the Club.
The Home Guard continues to run trials events for riders of all abilities. If you are interested in motorcycle sport details of the club can be obtained from the secretary of the meeting (email here) or alternatively we meet every Thursday evening at the Cheltenham Motor Club Headquarters, Cheltenham at 8:30pm.
Membership of the Club entitles riders to reduced entry fees at selected CHG events. Only Club Members can enter the Closed-To-Club (CTC) events.
